Starting off with a simple task of changing a flat tyre, I was pleasantly surprised by ChatGPT's emphasis on safety instructions. It covered essential steps like finding a safe location, activating hazard lights, and engaging the parking brake. Even the sequence of cracking the nuts before jacking up the car was correctly mentioned.
However, there were a couple of details missing, such as the recommendation to place the space-saver on the back for front-wheel-drive cars and guidance on dealing with a stuck wheel.
Diagnosing Faulty Ignition Coil
When I delved into a more complex issue of identifying symptoms of a faulty ignition coil, ChatGPT offered a range of solutions encompassing fuel system problems, air-intake issues, engine sensors, fuel leaks, and spark plug/ignition concerns. While the suggestions were generally accurate, the broad approach and lack of a systematic troubleshooting sequence could be improved.
Addressing Overheating and Starting Issues
As the scenarios became more specific, such as diagnosing overheating and starting troubles in a 1990 Toyota Corolla, ChatGPT's responses started to deviate. It suggested checking various components like the radiator, thermostat, coolant system, water pump, ignition elements, and engine temperature sensor.
However, the advice to inspect 'faulty ignition components' and 'vacuum leaks' for an overheating problem seemed misleading. The progression towards costly replacements without considering simpler tests like a compression check or oil examination raised concerns about ChatGPT's diagnostic accuracy.
