I hosted a games night with the help from AI and...
I always enjoy hosting game nights with my friends. With a collection of board games, card games, and party games to choose from, each gathering is always unique and fun. Recently, I decided to spice things up by incorporating AI as the virtual host of our games.
AI as the Game Master
For this particular game night, I turned to ChatGPT for assistance. I asked ChatGPT to come up with ideas and oversee the running of three different games. The experience was quite chaotic initially, but it highlighted the potential of AI in the role of a game master.
One of the games we played was a trivia game, a perfect choice for integrating AI. Having ChatGPT pose the questions allowed for a seamless and simultaneous gameplay experience for all participants. I provided the AI with various topics such as space, cooking, and 90s pop culture, and asked it to generate questions. ChatGPT took on the persona of a lively quizmaster, complete with enthusiastic commentary and entertaining jokes. Although there were a few challenges with question difficulty, the overall experience was engaging and enjoyable.
Artistic Challenges with AI
Next, we delved into a game of Pictionary but with a twist. Not all of us were skilled artists, so I enlisted the help of ChatGPT and its DALL-E image generator. The AI created drawings based on our prompts, leading to amusing and sometimes bizarre illustrations. We even introduced a guessing game where participants had to interpret the AI's abstract drawings, resulting in hilarious attempts and creative guesses.
A Murder Mystery Adventure
For the grand finale of the night, we embarked on a murder mystery adventure. ChatGPT was tasked with crafting a custom murder mystery story, and it did not disappoint. The intricate tale involved me as the victim and my friends as suspects with unique motives. The detailed character profiles and clues generated by ChatGPT added depth to the game, resulting in an immersive and thrilling experience for everyone involved.
The night ended with unexpected twists and a surprising reveal of the killer, making it a memorable and enjoyable game night. Despite a few minor inconsistencies in the backstory, the murder mystery game was a definite crowd favorite and a game I look forward to playing again in the future.
