The Impact of Google Gemini in the AI Landscape
Google Gemini has emerged as a major player in the artificial intelligence landscape in 2024. It represents Google’s expansion into new realms and is being integrated into various apps within the Google Workspace. While the advancements in AI are impressive, they raise ethical concerns regarding how AI is trained, touching on issues such as copyright and fair compensation.
One of the key components of Google Gemini, Imagen 3, has been at the center of this debate. Despite the ongoing discussions, Gemini's image creation user experience continues to evolve, now offering enhanced customization options to users.
Improvements in Image Creation
One notable enhancement in Gemini is the upcoming change in image outputs. Previously, Imagen 3 and Imagen 2 shared square canvas outputs. However, in the latest stable version of the Google app, users can now resize Gemini images with added background details and improved image scaling, as reported by Android Authority.
Google has been actively developing Gemini's image creation tools, with Imagen 3 continuously improving its capabilities. The latest version introduced in August showcased advancements over Imagen 2, including better prompt comprehension and the addition of a four-image output option known as Imagen 3 Fast.
Limitations and Progress
While Gemini has made strides in image generation, it still has limitations. For instance, Gemini is currently unable to generate images of people. Google acknowledged this shortfall early on and is working on addressing it. Despite this limitation, Gemini's integration into various Google apps like Slides has expanded its usability, providing users with AI image creation capabilities directly within the platform.
Users with Enterprise or Education accounts, as well as access to Google Workspace Labs, can leverage Gemini's features. For personal accounts, subscription to Google One AI Premium grants access to the functionality. In addition to Slides, the Gemini integration in the Google Pixel 9’s Screenshots app has further diversified its application.
It is worth noting that Gemini has been making advancements, with the release notes indicating progress towards generating images featuring people, catering to the diverse needs of users.
