OpenAI Launches New AI Reasoning Model o3-mini With Free ChatGPT

In this regard, the AI company has unveiled its new o3-mini reasoning model with cutting-edge AI technology.
The model is designed in a way that enhances the capabilities of its popular language model ChatGPT. OpenAI has also announced a free version of ChatGPT within its o3-mini. The model, previewed in December 2024, delivers exceptional STEM capabilities, including fields like science, math, and coding. The company mentions that its small IA model supports highly requested developer features such as function calling, Structured Outputs, and developer messages.
Enhanced Developer Features
Developers using the o3-mini can choose from three reasoning options: low, medium, and high. These options are based on the complexity of the problem the developer is facing. The high reasoning option enables OpenAI's new reasoning model to think creatively and tackle complex challenges efficiently while prioritizing speed when latency is a concern.
The blog post clarifies that Model o3-mini does not include vision capabilities, so developers will need to use OpenAI o1 for visual reasoning tasks. The company is launching the new reasoning model starting today, and developers can access it through the Chat Completions API, Assistants API, and Batch API.
While ChatGPT Plus, Team, and Pro users can immediately access the new OpenAI model, it was officially rolled out on 31 January. Developers can try out the o3-mini for free in ChatGPT by navigating to the Reason feature in the chat option. Furthermore, the company has increased the message limit from 50 messages per day in o1-mini to 150 messages per day in o3-mini.
