Meta Platforms has announced exciting updates for the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, introducing AI video capabilities and real-time language translation functionality. These features were first revealed during Meta's annual Connect conference in September and are now available to members in the "Early Access Program". The v11 software update, rolling out starting Monday, includes these innovative additions.
AI Video Capabilities
The latest update enhances Meta's AI chatbot assistant by incorporating video capabilities into the Ray-Ban smart glasses. This advancement enables the glasses to process real-time visual information and respond to user inquiries promptly.
Real-Time Language Translation
One of the most noteworthy features of the update is the live translation functionality, allowing users to seamlessly translate speech between English and Spanish, French, or Italian. Conversations in these languages can be heard in English through the glasses' open-ear speakers or displayed as transcripts on the user's phone, and vice versa.
Additional AI Features
In addition to the video and translation enhancements, Meta has introduced several other AI features to the Ray-Ban smart glasses. Users can now set reminders, scan QR codes, and parse phone numbers using voice commands. The glasses also support the 'Hey Meta' wake word for hands-free interaction and the ability to ask follow-up questions without repeating the wake word.
Furthermore, users can utilize the glasses to remember important information, such as recording and sending voice messages via WhatsApp and Messenger, all while staying engaged in the present moment.
Live Translation Support
Live translation capabilities have been expanded to include support for conversations in Spanish, French, and Italian. This feature enables seamless communication by translating foreign languages into English through the smart glasses' open-ear speakers.
Meta has also integrated Shazam into the smart glasses, enabling users in the U.S. and Canada to identify songs effortlessly.
