In August, Merton Lawyers hosted their annual networking event with Invest Victoria and the ASX at the Blacksmith in Richmond. The event was a great success, with a fully booked attendance and a waitlist. The celebration was attended by client founders, investors, and industry professionals, many of whom are involved with Merton Lawyers' Project Frontier program. Collaborating with Invest Victoria and ASX was truly inspiring, and we look forward to continuing to work together to enhance the Australian innovation ecosystem.
Sprint Ventures Lunch Event
Merton Lawyers also participated in the Sprint Ventures lunch event in Melbourne, where industry leaders came together. The event featured a fireside chat led by Sprint Ventures General Partner, Llew Jury, and the visionary Founder of MediStays, Sarah Everitt. There were insightful presentations about Sprint Fund III, highlighting the firm's commitment to investing in promising founders and early-stage companies across various sectors.
New Right to Disconnect Laws
Beginning on 26 August 2024, new right to disconnect laws have been implemented for non-small business employers in Australia. These laws grant employees the legal right to disconnect from work communication outside their contracted hours. The changes aim to promote a healthy work-life balance and protect employees from excessive work demands.
Amendments to Australian Consumer Law
Recent amendments to the Australian Consumer Law make it illegal to include unfair terms in standard contracts or enforce unfair terms. These changes provide stronger protections for consumers and ensure fair business practices.
Tech Fast 50 Awards
Merton Lawyers will be participating in SF Tech Week's presentation on 'Expansion to the US' and the prestigious Deloitte Tech Fast 50 Australia awards, which recognize the country's fastest-growing tech companies.
