We will now see if consumers really want generative AI
OpenAI has removed all of the typical complaints. I broke down how ChatGPT-4o has it all, with two exceptions. https://lnkd.in/gbaG9Gei
Businesses are Leveraging AI for Revenue Generation
I help businesses generate revenue with AI. Strategy and implementation using generative AI and emerging technologies. The strategy is multipart but seems straightforward - landgrab for consumer by offering the best (current) model. Add more ‘magic, and phase back limits over time. That translates to workplace shadow AI and becomes a tsunami that management can’t ignore as everyone is using it already, so lessens choice load. That releases budget whilst APi/enterprise continues and users get less magic in the narrative making OpenAI the credible, trusted, secure option. Oh and apply the Netflix content blitz strategy to updates - Sora, GPT5 - keeping Google & Co on the back foot. Seems to be working but let’s see if consumers bite first.
The Departure of Ilya Sutskever from OpenAI
Ilya Sutskever is leaving OpenAI. The timing is interesting, but it seemed inevitable after the debacle of November 2023. He is a giant of generative AI and his work on process reward models is likely to have a lasting impact. Of course, his role in leading OpenAI's innovation train will be unforgettable.

Exciting Developments in Generative AI
"Generate in May and code away!" Thanks to Github Workspace! It's been an action-packed 2 weeks. Eric Schwartz and I will discuss fresh Microsoft data on AI office trends. Meanwhile, OpenAI continues to innovate with new tools and strategic deals. Amazon pushes ahead with Bedrock Studio and AWS Q. Anthropic goes mobile, Yelp adds an AI assistant, and NVIDIA ChatRTX gets voice control. Major funding developments from CoreWeave, Lamini, and more are also underway.
The Impact of Meta's Core Strategy
Meta's core strategy will be well-served by the Meta AI assistant and smart glasses. The question is whether Meta can drive enough interest for either (or both) to take off. Meta's Ray-Ban smart glasses may turn out to be a bigger product than Quest / Oculus and a useful channel for providing access to Meta AI. Smart glasses and voice assistants are natural companions that can each contribute to a richer experience. Smart glasses are the most likely device to begin displacing consumer dependence on the smartphone for some use cases.
