The Mexican government has filed a lawsuit against Google for renaming the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America in Maps within the United States. Google has agreed to pay the state of Texas $1.375 billion to settle two lawsuits accusing the company of violating its residents' data privacy rights. The company has also settled a lawsuit that accused it of creating systemic bias against Black employees, paying out $50 million to settle the suit.

Google is hosting two events to share updates to Android and Gemini: It's I/O 2025 keynote and The Android Show. In a couple of short weeks, Google’s annual developer conference will kick off on May 20. Chrome now has access to an on-device Gemini Nano model for scam detection.

Google is once again crossing the great divide between rival tech giants, at least with artificial intelligence. During Google's antitrust trial, it was revealed that Apple is considering adding AI search engines to Safari. A court ruled that Google violated antitrust law.

Google is reportedly producing tech-friendly film and TV through a new initiative called 100 Zeros. The company will let supervised users under 13 use its Gemini chatbot, but warned parents about potential risks. Google is releasing a NotebookLM app on May 20, bringing the AI-powered research tool to Android and iOS. Over the next few weeks, Google will start testing AI Mode with regular Search users.

Google is helping to fund electrical training to meet the future power demands of data centers running AI models. US passports have been available on the platform since last December. Google doesn't plan to sell any more Nest Thermostats in Europe due to the unique requirements of heating systems in the region. The company is also testing AI-generated highlight clip reels on YouTube, potentially expanding its AI overview toolset.
