ChatGPT Restored After Second Outage This Month
On an early Tuesday, OpenAI's ChatGPT faced downtime for approximately two and a half hours, marking the second disruption in the same month. The outage commenced at 11:20 AM PT and concluded by 1:55 PM PT. In India, users encountered this downtime from 11:50 PM on Monday until 2:25 AM on Tuesday.
All services, including the API, ChatGPT, Labs, and Playgrounds, are now fully operational after the resolution of the issue.
Issues Faced During Outage
During the outage period, users either encountered no responses or received error messages when attempting to use ChatGPT. OpenAI initiated an investigation approximately 30 minutes after receiving initial reports, and the service was successfully restored by early Tuesday morning.
Reason for Outage
OpenAI attributed the outage to "an unexpected surge in traffic and demand, which led to system overloads." This surge resulted in system overloads, leading to various error messages and access problems on both web and mobile applications.
