WhatsApp's New AMOLED Black Theme: A Sneak Peek

Design Improvements by WhatsApp

Over the past couple of years, WhatsApp has been improving the design of its app to something more modern. Recently, it was spotted testing more than 20 chat themes that can be applied inside the chat thread. Now, it has been spotted testing a much darker color across the interface, including the chat list and chat threads. It was spotted in the latest beta version (Android 2.24.22.4) of the app.

As you can see in the image above, compared to its current interface in the Dark Mode, WhatsApp is using a much deeper and darker version of black, which makes other UI elements appear more prominent. For example, the green button to start a new chat and the Meta AI logo now look clearer than the existing design. WABetaInfo says that WhatsApp seems to have transitioned from a less deep version of the black color (#0b141a) to a deeper version of the color (#0a1014).

Future Release for WhatsApp Users

Since the company is internally testing this AMOLED black-like color theme, it is likely that it will release the design to all WhatsApp users across the world in the next few months. This new color aligns with the general trends that app developers have been taking over the past couple of years, as more and more phones have been using OLED screens. Deeper black is easier on the eyes and saves more battery.
