Introducing ChatGPT 4o
OpenAI recently released the latest version of their generative AI software, ChatGPT 4o, which is now available for all users. This new iteration, GPT-4o, stands out as an omni-enhanced flagship model, boasting improved speed and capabilities compared to its predecessor, the GPT-4 model.
According to OpenAI, GPT-4o offers enhanced features such as better understanding and discussing images shared with it. For instance, users can upload a picture of a menu in a foreign language and engage with GPT-4o to translate it, learn about the dish's background, significance, and even receive recommendations.
This advancement positions GPT-4o as a formidable rival to Google's Gemini AI. During Google's recent I/O conference, the tech giant unveiled upcoming AI enhancements across its array of products, including visual search upgrades.
Accessing ChatGPT 4o
Currently, GPT-4o is exclusively available to subscribers of ChatGPT Plus, a subscription model priced at $20 per month, introduced in February 2023. While free users will also have access to the new version, OpenAI is rolling out GPT-4o gradually, offering early access to paying subscribers.
In the following weeks, free ChatGPT users will gradually gain access to GPT-4o's text and image capabilities. OpenAI's initial announcement on Monday highlighted the phased rollout plan, mentioning increased message limits and upcoming voice mode integration.
Enabling GPT-4o on Different Platforms
As with the Android and iOS versions of ChatGPT, the web-based GPT-4o is not yet accessible for free users. While ChatGPT Plus subscribers can already enable GPT-4o on the browser edition, non-paying users will need to wait a few weeks for the update.
Free users will receive prompts to switch to GPT-4o with a ChatGPT Plus subscription, allowing them to transition between GPT-4 and GPT-4o versions.
Exploring OpenAI Playground and Desktop App
While GPT-4o is not currently available on chatgpt.com or the ChatGPT apps for free users, it can be accessed on the OpenAI Playground. The process to use GPT-4o on the OpenAI Playground is straightforward.
Additionally, ChatGPT is now accessible as a desktop app for macOS; however, the rollout process for GPT-4o is staged, with early access limited to paying subscribers.
To gain immediate access to the latest version of OpenAI's software, users will need a ChatGPT Plus subscription. There is also an option for a more flexible pricing scheme with BatchAPI, tailored for developers.
