Blue circle on WhatsApp: why it's advisable to disable it and how to...
Appearing unexpectedly on WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook Messenger, the blue circle of Meta AI can still be disabled with a few tricks. However, the short answer might disappoint many users: currently, Meta does not provide an option to completely disable or remove Meta AI from the WhatsApp, Instagram, or Facebook Messenger applications. The company is, therefore, pushing users to adopt its artificial intelligence, without any option to completely deactivate it. Nonetheless, there are a few methods to minimize its visibility.
Reducing Visibility
Although Meta AI cannot be fully disabled, it is still possible to find some options to drastically reduce its visibility. This way, you can avoid inadvertently using it and mask Meta AI’s presence in your favorite applications. The method varies slightly depending on the application you are using.
Removing Meta AI Conversations
If you’ve had a conversation with Meta AI, it can be removed from your main chat list. To do this, simply open your regular WhatsApp application and follow these steps:
- Open WhatsApp.
- Find the conversation with Meta AI.
- Swipe left on the chat and select ‘Delete’ or ‘Remove’.
By removing the conversation, you won’t have to deal with Meta AI popping up unexpectedly in your chat list.
On Instagram, if you’ve ever engaged in a conversation with Meta AI, the best strategy is to delete the conversation and mute notifications. To do this, just press down on the conversation in your message list and select the ‘Mute Messages’ option. This way, you can rest assured that you won’t receive notifications if the AI tries to initiate a chat.
Limiting Interactions
The simplest approach to limit interactions with Meta AI is to actively ignore it. This means avoiding clicks on its quick access icon, refraining from starting a direct dialogue, and not mentioning it in group chats via @MetaAI. You may also consider alternatives to WhatsApp (like Signal, Telegram, or RCS messaging) or Instagram (such as Bluesky, Flickr, or Pinterest).
