OpenAI has introduced its latest artificial intelligence tool called 'Operator' on Thursday. This new AI assistant is designed to handle a wide range of tasks on the web and is initially being launched for ChatGPT Pro users.
Capabilities of Operator
Described by OpenAI as "an agent that can go to the web to perform tasks for you," Operator is equipped with the ability to navigate web pages, interact with buttons and menus on websites, and execute various online tasks. Some of the tasks it can perform include online grocery orders, ticket purchases, refund calculations, lecture downloads, and PDF merging.
However, it's important to note that Operator is not entirely autonomous and may require manual input from users for certain actions, such as providing usernames and passwords for logging in. Additionally, the AI tool seeks confirmation from users before carrying out tasks like sending emails or placing orders.
Availability and Restrictions
As of now, Operator is exclusively accessible to ChatGPT Pro subscribers at a monthly cost of $200. OpenAI has revealed plans to extend the availability of Operator to other subscription tiers like ChatGPT Plus, ChatGPT Team, and ChatGPT Enterprise in the future.
OpenAI emphasized that Operator is programmed to avoid engaging in harmful or illegal activities and is restricted from accessing websites that are considered off-limits, such as those related to gambling, adult entertainment, and the sale of drugs and firearms.

Operator represents a significant stride for OpenAI in its pursuit of artificial general intelligence. This form of intelligence aims to enable machines to comprehend and learn any intellectual task akin to a human being.
In the competitive landscape of AI development, OpenAI faces rivalry from major players like Google-backed Anthropic and Elon Musk's xAI. Recently, OpenAI, in partnership with Microsoft, made headlines with its involvement in Stargate, a $500 billion AI infrastructure initiative with Nvidia.
