Microsoft goes deep on new Copilot Studio and M365 research
MSDW Insight: The push to bring the latest OpenAI advances to Copilot Studio continues at maximum velocity. Greater support for process automation scenarios suggests increased overlap with other services, especially as Copilot Studio reaches for more business scenarios that include approvals and routing. Customers and partners will be challenged to internalize the distinctions and apply the right tools for the right cases.
Microsoft recently announced two new agent capabilities in Microsoft Copilot Studio designed to enhance customer experience. These new capabilities allow customers to add complex task execution and sequenced actions to their processes. The addition of deep reasoning in Copilot Studio, now available in preview, provides agents with critical thinking skills, as highlighted by Microsoft CVP Charles Lamanna.
Enhanced Capabilities
These new capabilities are made possible through OpenAI o1, enabling Copilot Studio agents to make thoughtful decisions when applied to complex enterprise data. For instance, businesses can leverage deep reasoning to forecast demand across global markets or optimize supply chains, as stated by Lamanna.
Deep reasoning is now integrated into both conversational and autonomous agents, with an orchestrator within Copilot Studio determining when to utilize these capabilities. Microsoft also recently announced the general availability of generative orchestration in Copilot Studio, including dynamic chaining. This feature empowers agents to dynamically assemble conversations based on available inputs and assets. Users building agents have the flexibility to override this behavior and explicitly control the invocation of deep reasoning by incorporating the keyword ‘Reason’ in agent-building instructions, according to Lamanna.
Conclusion
Microsoft's continuous innovation in Copilot Studio and M365 research demonstrates the company's commitment to enhancing customer experiences and driving business efficiency.
