Meta Goes Big on AI With $65B Bet on Data Centers and GPUs
Meta (META, Financial) is going all-in on AI, with CEO Mark Zuckerberg announcing plans to spend $60B to $65B on building out the company's AI infrastructure. In a Facebook post on Friday, he revealed that Meta is constructing a 2GW+ data center—a facility large enough to cover a significant part of Manhattan.
The AI hub will bring 1GW of computing power online this year, and by the end of 2025, Meta expects to have a total of more than 1.3 million GPUs powering its AI efforts. Zuckerberg called 2025 a defining year for AI, predicting that Meta AI will serve over 1 billion users, the Llama 4 model will lead the industry, and AI engineers will start contributing more to Meta's R&D.
He also reassured investors that Meta has the cash to keep investing in AI for years, expecting it to drive future growth. Stocks of Nvidia (NVDA, Financial), Taiwan Semiconductor (TSM, Financial), and Arista Networks (ANET, Financial) initially reacted to the news before settling near flat levels.
