Unveiling Gemini Live: A Comprehensive Review

My Experience with Gemini Live: A Detailed Review

After eagerly waiting for months, Gemini Live has finally been released. You can start using Gemini Live on your Android phone right away if you are a subscriber of Gemini Advanced. I had the opportunity to test Gemini Live on my OnePlus phone, and I must say, it did not meet the high expectations set by the demos showcased during Google I/O 2024.

Exploring Gemini Live Features

One major limitation I encountered with Gemini Live is its current lack of support for modalities such as images or real-time camera input, a feature that was highlighted with Project Astra. As of now, Gemini Live primarily focuses on free-flowing audio conversations, which generally work well. However, there are some notable issues in the implementation of this feature that need to be addressed.

Personal Interaction with Gemini Live

During my interactions with Gemini Live, I sought its assistance in preparing for a job interview in the AI field. The AI provided me with a list of languages and frameworks relevant to my field of work, along with valuable suggestions to enhance my skills. While the overall experience was positive, I did notice that Gemini Live occasionally provided generic suggestions without delving into technical details.

Furthermore, I tested Gemini Live on various topics, including privacy concerns and popular culture references. The AI demonstrated knowledge on some subjects but struggled with accuracy on others. It showed inconsistencies in providing precise information, especially on topics like software updates and popular media content.

Limitations and Room for Improvement

One notable drawback of Gemini Live is its inability to maintain context and roles consistently during conversations. The AI often deviates from designated roles and fails to sustain a specific context, leading to disruptions in communication flow. Additionally, Gemini Live exhibits challenges in replicating accents and performing certain tasks smoothly, indicating areas for improvement.

Looking Ahead

As Google continues to enhance Gemini Live, users can anticipate improvements in its native multimodal capabilities and conversational accuracy. While the AI shows potential in facilitating everyday tasks and interactions, there is a need for refinement to achieve seamless, natural conversations akin to leading AI models in the market.
