Google has recently introduced its AI assistant app, Gemini, in India, aiming to provide users with new capabilities and support for Indian languages, all for free. This move is seen as a direct competition with OpenAI's ChatGPT. Along with the launch, Google has also announced several new features for Gemini Advanced, including enhanced data analysis functionalities and the ability to upload files.
New Features and Language Support
The tech giant, led by Sundar Pichai, has made significant strides with Gemini's new offering. Among the notable additions is the support for chatting with Gemini within Google Messages, initially available in English. Sundar Pichai shared this milestone on X (formerly Twitter), stating, "Today, we're launching the Gemini mobile app in India, available in English and 9 Indian languages."
With the introduction of Gemini, users in India can now interact in various Indian languages, including Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu. The app allows users to communicate through typing, voice commands, or even image uploads for a more versatile and tailored experience.
Enhanced Functionality
The official blog post highlights the diverse functionalities of the Gemini app, showcasing its ability to assist users with tasks like providing instructions on changing a flat tire or crafting the perfect thank-you note. This development signifies Google's commitment to creating a conversational, multimodal, and supportive AI assistant.
To access the Gemini app on Android, users can download it from the Google Play Store or opt-in through Google Assistant. The app can be activated with various methods, such as corner swiping, power button activation on select devices, or voice commands like 'Hey Google.'
For iOS users, access to Gemini will be gradually rolled out through the Google app in the coming weeks.
Advanced Capabilities and AI Model
Gemini Advanced in India now operates on the Gemini 1.5 Pro AI model, enhancing its capabilities to handle complex tasks effectively. This updated version can process extensive data, from lengthy documents and emails to videos and codebases. Users can now upload and summarize large documents, access quick information from Gmail or Google Drive, and even create images seamlessly.
Furthermore, Gemini Advanced offers features like summarization, personalized feedback, and actionable insights. It can analyze diverse data formats, including spreadsheets from Google Sheets and Excel, and present the information through interactive charts and graphs.
Google is taking a step further by integrating Gemini into Google Messages in English, aligning with the familiar interface and expanding its usability within the platform.
