Google Photos Getting a Gemini-Powered Ask Photos Feature in ...
Google Photos is introducing a new artificial intelligence feature called Ask Photos, as announced by the tech giant on Thursday. This new feature will enhance the search capabilities within the photo gallery app by allowing users to send conversational queries to Gemini, an AI system.
Additionally, Google Photos is also rolling out a 'descriptive queries' feature that will enable users to input detailed search queries in the app's native search bar. It's important to note that the Ask Photos feature is currently in the early access phase.
Ask Photos: A Closer Look
In a recent blog post, Google shared details about the Ask Photos feature, describing it as an experimental feature under Google Labs. While the feature is currently in limited release and only accessible to selected users in the US, it represents a significant step towards enhancing the user experience.
Ask Photos will be presented as a separate interface within the Google Photos app, accessible through a search icon located at the bottom-right corner. Once accessed, users will engage with Gemini to request specific images using natural language queries.
For example, users can simply ask, "Show me my pictures at Shaurya's birthday party," and Gemini will intelligently interpret the request to display relevant images. Additionally, users can seek suggestions from Gemini on which images to share on social media platforms.
Focus on Privacy and Data Security
Google emphasized its commitment to user privacy and data security with the new features in Google Photos. The company assured users that their data will not be utilized for advertising purposes. While human review of search queries in Ask Photos may occur to improve the feature, this process will only take place after disconnecting the user's account.
Furthermore, Google clarified that the responses generated by Ask Photos, including photos and videos, undergo no human review, ensuring user privacy and data confidentiality.
Enhanced Search Experience
In addition to the Ask Photos feature, Google Photos is enhancing the search experience for all users with descriptive queries. This new functionality enables users to input search queries in natural language sentences, providing more context to their searches.
The descriptive queries feature is currently being rolled out in English to Android and iOS users, offering a more intuitive and user-friendly search experience within the Google Photos app.
