Apple is set to introduce new artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities to users through its upcoming software updates. This initiative includes the development of a new AI system called Apple Intelligence, as well as a collaboration with ChatGPT, aiming to enhance user experiences across Apple products.
Apple Intelligence: Personalized AI System
During its developer's conference, Apple unveiled its plans for Apple Intelligence, a personalized AI system designed to cater to individual user needs. This new feature, along with the AI enhancements for Siri, represents Apple's latest foray into the field of artificial intelligence, following similar advancements by industry peers like Google and Microsoft.
Apple's AI update promises a more tailored experience for users compared to existing generative AI tools. With Apple Intelligence, users will have the ability to prioritize notifications and assist in rewriting content within various apps such as emails, notes, and messages.
This feature will debut with the launch of iOS18 and subsequent updates for Mac and iPad operating systems, scheduled for release in the fall.
Enhancements to Siri
Apple also announced improvements to its AI voice assistant, Siri, making it more conversational and context-aware. Users will be able to engage Siri in follow-up questions, leveraging user context to access relevant information without switching between apps.
For example, users can inquire about a family member's flight arrival time using Siri, extracting information from past messages seamlessly.
In addition to voice commands, users will now have the option to interact with Siri via text input.
Partnership with ChatGPT
In a strategic move, Apple will integrate OpenAI's ChatGPT directly into its products, offering users access to the generative AI tool without the need for a separate account. Siri may redirect users to ChatGPT for certain queries, enabling them to leverage ChatGPT for writing assistance and other applications within the Apple ecosystem.
