Amazon will develop an inference-type artificial intelligence (AI) model specialized in solving complex problems
According to foreign media such as Business Insider on the 5th, Amazon is developing its own AI model that integrates reasoning functions. The model under development will appear through Amazon's line-up of AI models, the Nova brand, and is expected to be released as early as June.
The Nova Brand and Its Models
Nova is the source model announced by Amazon at its annual event, Amazon Web Service (AWS) Reinvent 2024, in December last year, and consists of four models, Micro, Light, Pro, and Premier, depending on the size of the model.
Benefits of Inference Models
The inference model being developed by Amazon is an AI that takes more time through a step-by-step thinking process, but has better performance in solving complex problems. In solving high-level problems such as mathematics and science, the inference model records a higher percentage of correct answers.
For example, for open AI, GPT-4 and GPT-4.5 are general non-discriminatory models, while 'o-series' such as o1, o3 are a family of inference models.
Latest Developments in Inference Models
Recently, as the performance of inference-type models has developed dramatically, many companies, including OpenAI, are introducing inference-type models. In the case of OpenAI, from GPT-5, the GPT product line and the 'o series' will be combined and released as an integrated model.
Anthropic also launched its latest inference model "Claude 3.7 Sonet" last month. For Claude 3.7 Sonet, it is called the industry's first hybrid AI model that combines a general model with an inference model. Simple answers that require quick answers are provided as a general model, while inference-type models are used for complex questions.
Future Plans for Amazon AI
In addition, Amazon will also introduce an "Annie to Annie" model this year that can use all types of data such as text, image, video, and voice to ask questions and answer real-time voice conversations.
