Meta's AI tools for advertisers can now create full new images, not just backgrounds
Meta is introducing an expanded set of generative AI tools for advertisers, building on the initial AI features announced last October. Advertisers can now go beyond simply changing backgrounds in product images to requesting full image variations. These variations provide AI-generated suggestions for the overall photo, such as updated angles or product presentations.
Enhanced Image Creation with AI
One example provided by Meta showcases how a traditional ad featuring a cup of coffee beside coffee beans could be transformed. The AI could reframe the cup against a backdrop of lush greenery and coffee beans, resembling a scene from a coffee farm. This level of creativity allows for unique and captivating product presentations.
Potential Misuse and Safeguards
While this technology opens up exciting possibilities for advertisers, there is a concern about potential misuse. Advertisers could use AI variations to market non-existent products, leading to deceptive practices. Meta acknowledges this risk and highlights the implementation of guardrails to prevent the generation of inappropriate or low-quality content.
These guardrails filter out unsupported images and ensure that the generated content meets quality standards. Meta has conducted rigorous testing, involving both internal and external experts, to identify and address any vulnerabilities in the system.
Text Prompts and Additional Features
Meta's AI image generation feature now allows advertisers to provide text prompts for further customization. In addition, text overlays using popular font types can be added to AI-generated images. Another enhancement includes image expansion, which now extends to Reels on both Facebook and Instagram platforms.
Customer Feedback and Global Availability
One advertiser, Casetify, reported a 13% increase in return on ad spend by utilizing Meta's GenAI Background Generation feature. The updated AI features will soon be accessible globally, empowering advertisers worldwide to leverage these advanced tools for their campaigns.
Besides image manipulation, Meta's AI can also generate alternative ad headlines and text, providing a holistic advertising solution. The company is continually refining its AI capabilities to mimic a brand's voice and tone effectively.
Expansion of Meta Verified Subscription
Alongside the AI updates, Meta is expanding its subscription service, Meta Verified, to new markets. Businesses in Argentina, Mexico, Chile, Peru, France, and Italy can now access Meta Verified, offering various tiers with additional features tailored to different needs. The service will soon be extended to WhatsApp, providing further benefits to verified businesses.
