OpenAI's ChatGPT gets memory update, teases new AI model - The ...

OpenAI is upgrading ChatGPT’s memory so that the AI chatbot can now recall previous conversations and customize responses based on them. The feature will be rolled out to ChatGPT Plus and Pro users initially, followed by Enterprise, Team, and Edu users over the next few weeks. It’s still unclear if the update will be extended to basic ChatGPT users.
CEO Sam Altman announced the update on X on April 10, mentioning, “This is a surprisingly great feature imo, and it points at something we are excited about: AI systems that get to know you over your life, and become extremely useful and personalized.”
While a feature called ‘Memory’ existed earlier, users had to manually activate it to make ChatGPT remember information for later use. This feature had limitations in retaining information for future interactions as the default chat setting was 'Temporary Chat'.
Enhanced Memory Options
With the latest update, ChatGPT introduces two new memory options - ‘Reference saved memories,’ similar to the old feature, and ‘Reference chat history,’ which leverages context from past conversations to adapt future dialogues. Users will retain the privilege to disable the feature entirely.

Additionally, Altman teased on X that an exciting feature is set to be launched today. Speculations suggest it might be a new significant language model, but it remains unknown whether it will be a successor to GPT-4 or a new reasoning AI model.
A recent report by The Verge anticipates OpenAI's release of GPT-4.1, along with mini and nano versions by the following week. References to o3 and o4 models in a new ChatGPT web version hint at potential upcoming launches.
