Unlocking Potential: ChatGPT Upgraded with OpenAI's GPTo

OpenAI launches GPTo, improving ChatGPT's text, visual and audio capabilities

OpenAI has introduced a new artificial intelligence model that has the ability to mimic human cadences in verbal responses and even detect people's moods. This latest update brings to mind the concept from the movie "Her" by Spike Jonze, where the main character forms a unique relationship with an artificially intelligent operating system. While the seductiveness may not be comparable, OpenAI states that this model operates faster than its predecessors and can analyze text, audio, and video simultaneously.

GPT-4o, also known as "omni," will power OpenAI's popular ChatGPT chatbot and will soon be accessible to users, including those using the free version. The announcement was made during a brief live-streamed update by the company. CEO Sam Altman, though absent from the presentation, shared a single word "her" on the social media platform X.

Enhancements and Features

During a live demonstration with Chief Technology Officer Mira Murati and other executives, the AI chatbot engaged in real-time conversations, incorporating emotions such as "more drama" into its voice upon request. It demonstrated the ability to guide through solving simple math equations without immediately providing the answer and assisted in solving complex software coding problems on a computer screen.

In addition, the model attempted to interpret a person's emotional state by analyzing a selfie video, determining their happiness based on their smile. Furthermore, it showcased translation capabilities between English and Italian to facilitate conversations between individuals who speak different languages.

Industry Analysis

Gartner analyst Chirag Dekate noted that the update, lasting less than 30 minutes, gave the impression that OpenAI is striving to catch up with larger competitors. While acknowledging OpenAI's initial lead with ChatGPT and GPT3, Dekate highlighted perceived capability gaps compared to industry peers, particularly Google. Google is set to unveil updates to its own AI model, Gemini, at the upcoming I/O developer conference.
