Meta AI can imagine anything…except operating in the EU ...
Meta AI is making its international debut, with plans to launch in various countries including Brazil, Bolivia, Guatemala, Paraguay, the Philippines, and the UK. While the AI assistant will eventually expand to 21 countries across Africa, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East, it is notably absent in any continental European country due to regulatory challenges with the European Union (EU).

Although Meta has not announced a specific release date for Meta AI in countries beyond the initial list, users in Algeria, Egypt, Indonesia, Iraq, Jordan, Libya, Malaysia, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Thailand, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, Vietnam, and Yemen can look forward to accessing Meta AI in the near future. The AI assistant will enable users to interact, create images, and utilize features like "Imagine Me" to generate digital avatars based on uploaded photos.
Expanding Access and Language Support
The expansion of Meta AI globally will not only provide wider geographic access but also linguistic diversity. Users will not be limited to communicating in English, as Meta AI plans to introduce new languages such as Tagalog, Arabic, Indonesian, Thai, and Vietnamese to cater to a broader user base.
Meta AI aims to become the most widely used AI assistant worldwide by the end of the year, with a projected 500 million active monthly users across 43 countries and a dozen languages. Users can expect to engage with the AI assistant for various purposes, including exploring interests, accessing how-to guides, and finding inspiration for creative projects.

EU Expansion Challenges
Despite Meta's popularity in the EU, the company has refrained from expanding its AI offerings in the region due to concerns over regulatory compliance. European lawmakers have raised issues regarding ethical data use and privacy, leading to delays in the adoption of AI technologies that do not adhere to the new regulations.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has expressed reservations about the restrictive regulations, citing potential limitations on innovation. As a result, Meta has opted to focus on other markets for the distribution of its AI products, bypassing the EU for the time being.
Expanding into Wearable Tech
In addition to its global expansion, Meta AI is also venturing into wearable technology by integrating with Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses in more regions, including the UK and Australia. While Australian users will enjoy the full range of features, voice support will be initially available in the UK. The integration of Meta AI with wearable tech aligns with the company's strategy of embedding AI across its product range.
