Copilot AI Added to Microsoft 365 Apps Alongside $3-Per-Month Price Increase
Microsoft is making significant changes to its Microsoft 365 subscriptions by integrating Copilot AI into its suite of apps, which includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and OneNote. This move aims to make AI capabilities more accessible to a wider audience. Previously, users had to pay a $20 Copilot Pro add-on fee to access these features, but now they are included in the standard subscription.
With this update, Microsoft has also adjusted the pricing of its Microsoft 365 plans. The Microsoft 365 Personal plan now costs $9.99 per month, up from $6.99, while the 365 Family plan is priced at $12.99 per month, up from $9.99. This marks the first price increase for Microsoft 365 in 12 years, with the company justifying it as necessary to continue delivering new innovations and benefits to subscribers.
Changes and Limitations
Existing Microsoft 365 Personal and Family subscribers who prefer not to use Copilot can opt for the Microsoft 365 Personal Classic or Microsoft 365 Family Classic plans for the next 12 months. Microsoft is still evaluating the availability of these classic plans for customers and will provide more details in the near future.
One key change with the updated bundles is the allocation of 60 AI credits per month for Copilot users. These credits are consumed each time Copilot executes a task, such as text generation, table creation, or image editing. To avoid credit limitations, users can purchase the Copilot Pro add-on.
However, there are some limitations to the new subscription model. For Family plan subscribers, Copilot access is restricted to the subscription owner and cannot be shared with other members on the plan.
