OpenAI has introduced a new functionality where ChatGPT for macOS can now seamlessly integrate with your favorite applications. This feature aims to provide users with smarter and more context-aware responses by accessing content from compatible coding apps.
How to Enable
To start using this feature, follow these simple steps:
- Ensure that a compatible app is running on your macOS device.
- Open ChatGPT and click on the "Work With Apps" button.
- Choose the specific app you wish to connect with ChatGPT.
- Once successfully activated, you will see a banner above the chat bar confirming the integration.
What Content is Included?
This new functionality supports integration with a variety of applications including editors, IDEs (such as Xcode, VS Code, TextEdit), and terminals (e.g., Terminal, iTerm). For editors and IDEs, ChatGPT can access content from open panes, focusing on selected text while considering the entire pane. In the case of terminals, the last 200 lines of content are captured with a focus on selected text and surrounding lines.
Please note that this feature leverages the macOS Accessibility API for seamless app integration. If you are using VS Code, a ChatGPT extension is required for content access.
