Snapchat makes chatbot ChatGPT available to all users
Snapchat is opening up its My AI chatbot feature, powered by ChatGPT, to all its users within the app. Previously, the feature was only available to Snapchat+ subscribers. ChatGPT is an AI chatbot that can generate original essays, stories, and even song lyrics in response to user prompts. The customizable My AI chatbot can offer recommendations, answer questions, make plans, and even write a haiku in seconds.
Users can interact with the chatbot by mentioning "@MyAI" in conversation with friends. They can also personalize the chatbot by giving it a name and designing a custom Bitmoji avatar for it. The move comes after ChatGPT creator OpenAI opened access to the chatbot to third-party businesses. Early partners experimenting with adding ChatGPT's functionality include Snap, Instacart, and Quizlet.
While AI chatbots have grown in popularity, incorporating ChatGPT may come with risks such as spreading inaccurate information or responding inappropriately. In a blog post, Snap acknowledged that while My AI chatbot isn't perfect, it has made a lot of progress. Snap has made changes to ensure the chatbot conforms to community guidelines and has added moderation technology. The company has also included the new feature in its in-app parental tools.
Overall, AI chatbots like ChatGPT may test the usefulness of AI chatbots in everyday life and how much people want to use them for customer service and other uses across their favorite apps. It remains to be seen how users will respond to the feature.
