Recently, a YouTuber known as ChromaLock shared a fascinating video online, revealing his latest creation: the "ultimate cheating device," cleverly disguised as a TI-84 calculator. This device, however, is far from your typical calculator, as it involves hardware modifications and a custom suite of software tailored specifically for the TI-84.
Hardware and Software Modifications
ChromaLock's creation allows users to run ChatGPT and other applications on the TI-84. The modded software, available on GitHub under the TI-32 repository, transforms the TI-84 Plus Silver Edition and TI-84 Plus C Silver Edition calculators, granting them internet access, test mode breakout, camera support, and the impressive ChatGPT functionality.
Microcontroller Integration
For the device to function seamlessly as the "ultimate cheating device," a Wi-Fi-enabled microcontroller was required to fit discreetly inside the calculator shell alongside its original components. ChromaLock opted for the Seeed Studio XIAO-ESP32-C3 microcontroller, which, when integrated with the TI-32 PCB and software suite, provided the necessary capabilities to operate.
Functionality and Future Enhancements
In his detailed video, ChromaLock demonstrates the device's flawless functionality, showcasing features like a chat function, monochrome image viewer, and ChatGPT input window. The project, however, does not end there. A glimpse at the "Features to be Added" section on GitHub reveals plans for enhancing GPT functionality, integrating web browsing, email support, video playback, and even Discord access.
