Google Introduces New LearnLM Models for Students, Gemini Integration in Education
Google is enhancing its generative AI technologies to better cater to the needs of educators, as announced at the Google I/O conference. Ben Gomes, the head of Learning & Education at Google, emphasized the impact of generative AI on learning and education, stating that it opens up innovative ways to support both educators and learners. According to Gomes, the potential of generative AI in transforming learning processes has only just begun to be tapped into.
LearnLM Model for Students
As part of its efforts to empower educators, Google is introducing a new AI model specifically designed for students, known as LearnLM. This model, which is based on the Gemini AI models, has been optimized for learning purposes. The LearnLM model aims to achieve five key objectives focused on student progress and development.
One of the key features of the LearnLM model is its integration with Google Workspace for Education, leveraging the capabilities of the flagship Gemini AI model. This integration will enable seamless access to AI assistance within various Google products, enhancing the learning experience for students.

Enhanced Learning Experience
Google has outlined various functionalities of the LearnLM model to demonstrate its practical applications in education. For instance, on Android devices, LearnLM will be integrated into the Circle to Search feature, allowing users to solve complex math problems effortlessly. In Google Search, the model will be able to rephrase and contextualize content to aid in better understanding.

Additionally, the integration with the YouTube app on Android devices will enable interactive features for viewers, such as asking questions or seeking clarification during video presentations.
Gemini AI Integration in Google Workspace
Education licensees of Google Workspace will benefit from the Gemini AI assistant, which will be available across the entire cloud productivity suite. Two add-ons, namely Gemini Education and Gemini Education Premium, will be offered to users starting May 23. These add-ons ensure enhanced features and support for educational tasks within Google Workspace.
