According to a spokesperson for the San Francisco Police Department, OpenAI whistleblower Suchir Balaji was found dead in his San Francisco apartment on Buchanan Street on November 26. First responders were called to his home to perform a wellness check. On their arrival, they found the body of a deceased adult male. During their initial investigation, they ruled there was no evidence of foul play.

According to the San Jose Mercury News, Director of the San Francisco Office of the Chief Medical Examiner later confirmed 26-year-old Balaji as the deceased person and officially ruled the manner of his death as a suicide. The medical examiner also said that it had already notified Balaji’s family before making a statement to the press.
