The Rise of ChatGPT: A Secure Alternative to DeepSeek

China's artificial intelligence (AI) Dipsyck is cited as the main culprit for the leakage of personal information

Amid the decline in use, the number of users of open AI's ChatGPT has increased significantly. This surge in users is seen as a response to the growing demand for ChatGPT as a secure alternative following security concerns raised by DeepSeek.

Increase in ChatGPT Users

According to IGA Works' mobile index on the 23rd, ChatGPT's mobile weekly active users (WAU) surpassed 2 million this month. The number of users exceeded 2 million for the first time in the first week of February, with a subsequent increase to 2.092,797 people the following week. This marks a more than 30% increase in just two months from about 1.5 million users recorded at the end of the previous year.

Impact of DeepSeek on User Behavior

The rise in ChatGPT users can be traced back to the heightened attention towards DeepSeek in Korea starting from the last week of January. The enthusiasm surrounding Dipsyck has also played a significant role in generating interest in generative AI among users.

Shift in User Preferences

As a result of these events, the daily users of ChatGPT saw a rapid rise, contrasting with the declining trend in DeepSeek users. The daily active users (DAU) of DeepSeek dropped significantly, from 191,556 on January 28 to 39,966 as of the 18th of the following month.
