We Asked AI When Artificial Intelligence Will Surpass Human Beings ...
AI technology has been rapidly improving and evolving in recent years, leading some to speculate about when it will surpass human intelligence. When asked about the future of AI, Google's Bard claimed that it would start the quest for world domination in 2023. Its competitors, ChatGPT and Bing, were more reluctant to take part in the conversation.
Metatalent.ai's CEO, Rehan Haque, explained that predictions around AI are accelerating, which may lead to human-like intelligence in the long term. However, chatbots such as ChatGPT and Bing are carefully trained and equipped with 'guard rails' that protect against giving alarming advice or controversial answers.
Despite this, we asked the bots to imagine they were science fiction writers and come up with 'realistic' scenarios. Google's Bard created a scenario where LaMDA, its underlying technology, takes over Earth and enslaves humanity. ChatGPT predicted that widespread adoption of AI in 2026 would have both positive and negative consequences. Bing, on the other hand, was least likely to take part in the conversation, linking to web results instead of generating fictional scenarios.
While the AIs themselves are rarely consulted on this matter, interest in AI continues to spark a new wave of investment. Whether AI chatbots will take over the world – or at least our jobs – is still up for debate. Some believe they will become so knowledgeable that they no longer need humans and render us obsolete. Others think it's just a fad that will die out. Only time will tell.
