Sundar Pichai Says Over 30% of Code at Google Now AI Generated
According to CEO Sundar Pichai, over 30% of the code written at Google is now created with the assistance of AI. This revelation was made during Alphabet's recent Q1 2025 earnings call. Developers at Google are increasingly embracing AI-generated suggestions, with nearly one-third of code changes being influenced by AI algorithms.
AI-Assisted Coding at Google
Pichai mentioned that the company is witnessing a significant uptick in the use of AI-assisted coding techniques across various teams. This trend is being driven by more advanced AI models and the introduction of agentic workflows, which are AI systems capable of planning and executing complex multi-step tasks. The deployment of these sophisticated workflows is being extended to all parts of the organization, with customer service teams leading the way in adoption.
Financial Performance of Alphabet

Introduction of Gemini 2.5 Pro
Google recently launched Gemini 2.5 Pro, a model that has garnered positive feedback from developers and users alike. Pichai described the model as "state-of-the-art" across various benchmarks and highlighted its superior performance in reasoning, coding, science, and math applications. The release of Gemini 2.5 Pro has ushered in new possibilities for both developers and customers, with active users in AI Studio and Gemini API growing by over 200% since the beginning of the year.
Integration of Gemini Models
Google has integrated Gemini models into all 15 of its products, serving over half a billion users. Key products like Android and Pixel are leveraging Gemini features such as Gemini Live and AI-powered camera tools. Additionally, Google Assistant is undergoing upgrades to incorporate Gemini capabilities, with plans to extend support to tablets, smartwatches, and cars later this year. To date, Gemma models have been downloaded over 140 million times, underscoring their popularity and widespread adoption.
Advancements in AI Development
Pichai also highlighted Google's efforts in advancing AI development, including the introduction of Gemini Robotics Models and AI Co-Scientist, a multi-agent system designed for scientific research. The revolutionary AlphaFold technology, which enhances protein structure prediction, has already been embraced by more than 2.5 million researchers worldwide.

Future Initiatives
Google continues to make strides across its core platforms, with AI Overviews now catering to over 1.5 billion users on a monthly basis. The rollout of Gemini Live screen sharing and camera tools on Android devices, including the latest Pixel 9a and Samsung S25 models, aims to enhance user experience and accessibility.
