Toys 'R' Us Debuts the First Sora AI Commercial
Toys 'R' Us has recently unveiled its inaugural commercial using OpenAI’s video-to-text program, Sora. The internet's response to this launch has been mixed. The once-popular toy retailer, which shut down all its stores in 2018, began a limited return in 2022 by establishing over 400 outlets within Macy’s stores nationwide.
In an attempt to resurrect its former prominence, Toys 'R' Us decided to create a cost-effective advertisement employing Sora AI technology. While some fans commended the initiative, a majority of social media users expressed dismay, labeling the commercial as a "fever dream" and "uncanny." One observer even remarked on the disconcerting appearance of the characters, while another, perhaps from the film industry, jokingly assured that human jobs are safe for the time being.
