Meta teams up with Oakley for launch of AI-powered smart glasses
Meta is making waves in the world of smart eyewear once again, this time with a sporty twist. The tech giant has announced a new collaboration with Oakley to introduce AI-powered glasses, expanding its presence in the realm of wearable technology.
This latest launch comes on the heels of Meta's successful foray into smart glasses with the Ray-Ban Meta and signifies a deepening partnership with eyewear powerhouse EssilorLuxottica, the parent company of Oakley and Ray-Ban.
Features of the Oakley Meta HSTN
The initial product to emerge from this enhanced partnership is the Oakley Meta HSTN, a special-edition smart glasses model that combines Oakley's signature athletic design with Meta's artificial intelligence technology. These glasses boast a hands-free high-resolution camera, open-ear speakers, water resistance, and integrated Meta AI capabilities.
Availability and Pricing
Pre-orders for the Oakley Meta HSTN will kick off on July 11, with prices starting at US$499. Additional models are slated to be released later in the summer, with prices beginning at $399. The Oakley Meta HSTN will make its debut at prominent sporting events such as UFC International Fight Week and Fanatics Fest to target fitness enthusiasts.
Initially, the product will be accessible in North America, Australia, and various European markets, with plans to expand to Mexico, India, and the United Arab Emirates by year-end.
Market Impact
Since the launch of the Ray-Ban Meta glasses, Meta has already achieved significant sales, driven by the growing interest in AI-enhanced accessories that seamlessly blend style and functionality. With this latest offering, Meta aims to solidify its position as a frontrunner in the smart glasses domain, outpacing competitors like Snap, which recently announced its plans to release Specs smart glasses to consumers in 2025. Other tech giants like Google are also exploring opportunities within the AI wearables sector.
