Meta AI vs ChatGPT: Mark Zuckerberg Says Firm's Llama-Powered Future is Bright
ChatGPT, a powerful AI chatbot introduced in 2022, revolutionized human interactions with artificial intelligence. OpenAI's ChatGPT quickly gained popularity worldwide for its accuracy and valuable information provided to users. However, it faced competition from other significant players in the AI space, such as Gemini (formerly Google Bard), xAI's Grok AI, and Meta AI powered by Llama 3 and 3.1 LLMs.
Mark Zuckerberg-led Meta recently unveiled its Llama 3.1 large language model, boasting advanced performance compared to existing models in the market. In a recent announcement, Zuckerberg expressed the rapid growth of the Llama LLM, with over 350 million downloads in August, marking a significant increase from the previous month. He highlighted a 10x surge in monthly usage since the beginning of the year and hinted at upcoming updates and new Llama models.
Meta AI Gaining Momentum
Meta AI, integrated into Meta platforms, is gaining traction and competing closely with OpenAI's ChatGPT. According to a report by The Information, Meta AI currently boasts around 400 MAU (monthly active users) and 40 million daily users. Zuckerberg's vision is for Meta AI to become the most widely used AI assistant by the end of the year.
Comparatively, OpenAI's ChatGPT has approximately 200 million weekly users, with Microsoft-backed OpenAI adding nearly 100 million users in less than a year. Meta's strategy of releasing open-source and customizable models has enabled a broader user base to utilize their AI technology.
Expanding User Base and Features
Meta's suite of apps supports the Meta AI assistant, empowering users to create text and images seamlessly. With Meta's chatbot reaching nearly 3 billion users globally, it poses a significant challenge to competitors like ChatGPT. However, despite achieving a milestone of 400 million users, Mark Zuckerberg's AI assistant still falls short of expectations among Meta's vast user base.
