Open AI announced on Tuesday (June 26) that it would be postponing the launch of the enhanced speech mode that was demonstrated last month. Originally scheduled for release in the software’s spring update, the feature will now be delayed, much to the disappointment of eager users looking to explore its capabilities further.
The upcoming voice assistant is set to revolutionize user interactions by offering more "human-like" conversations, complete with emotions such as laughter, sarcasm, and humor, a significant departure from the conventional robotic responses commonly associated with virtual assistants.
Despite initial assurances of a swift rollout for subscribers, OpenAI has confirmed a setback in the release of the updated "voice mode." The company had initially planned to introduce the feature as an alpha version to a select group of ChatGPT Plus users by the end of June but has now pushed back the timeline by an additional month.

A tweet showcasing the new voice of "Sky" has sparked debates among users, with observations that the voice differs from the one introduced during the Chat GPT-4o announcement. While initial discussions on social media drew comparisons between the assistant's voice and actress Scarlett Johansson, OpenAI refuted these claims and clarified the voice selection process in a blog post.
The actress responded to these allegations, highlighting OpenAI's proposal to use her voice for GPT-4o, which she declined. Following this, the Sky voice option was promptly removed from the platform by the company.
