Microsoft Creates New Internal Unit for AI Development: Core AI — Platform and Tools

Microsoft has announced the establishment of a new engineering group dedicated to advancing artificial intelligence: Core AI — Platform and Tools. This innovative initiative merges the company’s Developer Division with the AI Platforms work teams, as well as certain individuals who were previously under the purview of Microsoft’s CTO.

According to The Verge, this newly formed group will be spearheaded by Jay Parikh, the former CTO at Meta who recently joined Microsoft in October 2024. Core AI — Platform and Tools is set to concentrate on constructing an AI platform and a suite of tools intended for both Microsoft’s internal utilization and for the benefit of the company’s clientele.

“In this landscape, Azure is poised to become the foundational infrastructure for AI, while we layer our AI platform and developer tools — encompassing Azure AI Foundry, GitHub, and VS Code — on top of it,” Nadella elucidated. “Put simply, our AI platform and tools will collaborate to generate agents, which will, in turn, collaborate to revolutionize every sector of SaaS applications, and to design bespoke applications driven by software (i.e., ‘service as software’).”
