During the 'Google I/O 2025' conference in the US, Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google and Alphabet, announced that the Gemini app has now exceeded 400 million monthly active users. The number of developers working with Gemini has risen to over seven million, marking a fivefold increase from the previous year. Additionally, Gemini's usage on Vertex AI has skyrocketed by 40 times.
AI Advancements and Expansion
Pichai highlighted the significant progress in AI technology, stating that the usage of 2.5 Pro within the Gemini app has seen a 45% increase. The amount of data processed by Google's products and APIs has also seen a substantial surge, from 9.7 trillion tokens per month to over 480 trillion, signifying a 50-fold growth.
He emphasized that this advancement signifies a new era in the adoption of AI platforms, where years of research are now translating into tangible benefits for individuals, businesses, and communities globally.
Global Reach and Adoption
Since its launch, AI Overviews have expanded to serve more than 1.5 billion users across 200 countries and territories. In key markets like the U.S. and India, AI Overviews are driving over 10% growth in relevant query types, with this trend expected to continue. Google is introducing an innovative AI Mode for users seeking a comprehensive AI Search experience.
The new AI Mode offers advanced reasoning capabilities, enabling users to submit longer and more complex queries. Early testers have reported posing queries two to three times longer than traditional searches, with the ability to follow up with additional questions.
Enhanced Features and Availability
Pichai announced that AI Mode will be rolled out to all users in the U.S., delivering AI responses with the quality and accuracy synonymous with Google Search. The latest Gemini models promise the fastest AI responses in the industry. Gemini 2.5 will also be integrated into Search in the U.S., enhancing the overall search experience.
Google is further enhancing 2.5 Pro by introducing Deep Think, an advanced reasoning mode leveraging cutting-edge research on thinking and reasoning, including parallel thinking techniques.
