AI-powered iPhone on the way – but the tools are delayed | Sweden ...
Today, several media outlets report that Apple is set to launch the iPhone 16, a key move in the tech giant's efforts to keep up with rivals in the realm of artificial intelligence (AI). However, the highly anticipated AI tools appear to be facing delays.
At 7 pm tonight, Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 16, along with new Apple Watch models, at the annual Glowtime event. The iPhone 16 will be equipped with a new generation of processors known as A18, as reported by Financial Times. These processors have been developed in partnership with British chip manufacturer Arm and are based on Arm's new V9 design, a technology already present in Apple's MacBook computers since May.
Despite the advancements in processor technology, the AI revolution may not be immediate. Instead, the integration of AI tools into the new mobile phone is expected to be a gradual process. Consumers anticipating a transformative AI experience with the iPhone 16 may have to wait until Apple releases a software update in the iOS operating system in October, according to Bloomberg.
It's worth noting that the AI services, developed under the banner of Apple Intelligence, will not initially be available in the EU, including Sweden, and China, the world's largest mobile market.
The AI tools accompanying the iPhone 16 - available to users in eligible regions post software updates - encompass services for text summarization, text and data processing, and image editing capabilities that enable users to remove objects or individuals from photos directly on the device.
Later this year, the integration of Open AI's ChatGPT into the system is scheduled, with a significant AI enhancement for digital assistant Siri planned for 2025.
Some of the new AI tools from Apple will also be compatible with the advanced iPhone 15 models: iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, featuring A17 chips developed on Arm's V8 architecture.
Arm's collaboration with Apple under a multi-year agreement is expected to boost royalty revenue significantly in the future, driven by the latest technological advancements. Arm, a US-listed company, has witnessed a 70% increase in its stock value this year, alongside other chip manufacturers like Nvidia.
In addition to mobile devices like iPhones, Arm also produces chips for computers, automobiles, and industrial applications.
