We want to bring to your attention a concerning issue regarding data leakage on the ChatGPT platform powered by OpenAI’s artificial intelligence. Recent reports have surfaced indicating a significant breach of sensitive user information, including personal data details, conversations with the chatbot, and login credentials. This breach has raised serious concerns about the security of AI systems and the effectiveness of the safeguards put in place by companies.

Login issue - one-time password required

It has been reported that during chat sessions, sensitive data such as usernames and passwords were leaked to unrelated users, a clear violation of OpenAI’s privacy policies. Despite efforts to maintain strong passwords and security measures, the incident occurred, with the origin of the breach being traced back to Sri Lanka instead of the users’ real location in Brooklyn, US. This is not the first time OpenAI has faced security concerns. In March 2023, a bug led to the leakage of users’ payment data, and on another occasion, ChatGPT accidentally exposed company secrets belonging to Samsung, resulting in an internal ban on the tool.

The current incident sheds light on the challenges associated with enhancing security and privacy in AI technologies and large language models. Reports suggest that a threat actor has compromised the login credentials of over 20 million accounts, leading to fears of potential cybercriminal activities such as targeted phishing campaigns, identity theft, and financial fraud.

In light of these developments, I strongly recommend activating multi-factor authentication within OpenAI’s settings to add an extra layer of protection to your account, even if your password may have been compromised.

OpenAI says they take these claims seriously and are working diligently to address the situation. As of now, there is no evidence linking this breach to a compromise of OpenAI’s systems. However, if you are worried you have been affected reach out to us and we can assess your potential risks and help strengthen your security.
