Can AI Write a Bestseller? Can ChatGPT Be The Next J.K. Rowling ...
Having spent hours upon hours of my life nose-deep in books, and even more time wondering what makes one story unforgettable and another not so much, a question was stuck in mind: Can AI write an entire novel? And could that novel be a bestseller? It’s the kind of question that feels both thrilling and a little unnerving. After all, if AI can compose music, create beautiful artworks, and even have full-on conversations with humans, why couldn’t it pen a novel so captivating it tops the charts?
Turns out, it can. The process begins purely with data. GPT and similar models are trained on a mix of books, articles, scripts, etc. in their training dataset. But these systems don’t read in any human sense. Instead, they examine patterns: the way words are sequenced, the structures of sentences, and the rise and fall of storylines. Working atop a transformer architecture, a neural network learns to guess what word will come next in sequence as it begins to synthesize sentences and paragraphs, sometimes whole plot arcs.
