The AI Lab in Stockport: Where Innovation Meets Reality

Tech brothers hoping to kickstart an AI revolution in Greater Manchester

It's an unlikely spot for an AI revolution. But on an industrial estate in Heaton Mersey, alongside a sign shop and an electricians, that's exactly what's happening. It's there two Stockport brothers are opening a 'try before you buy' AI lab for businesses to test the latest tech.

The Rise of Vespertec

Vespertec, founded by Allan and Phil Kaye, works closely with global tech giant Nvidia, known for its graphics processing units (GPUs) designed for gaming but now essential in training AI models like Open AI.

Vespertec's Heaton Mersey lab is the first in Europe to offer the latest superchip developed by Nvidia, along with other cutting-edge technologies. The lab provides a platform for customers to test their applications and explore the potential of AI.

Facilitating AI Adoption

Allan Kaye explains, "We've brought this environment into the business to support the adoption of AI and help customers navigate the complexities of integrating AI into their operations. The lab functions as a 'try before you buy' space, allowing businesses to experiment with AI applications without the upfront investment."

Driving Innovation in Stockport

The establishment of the lab represents a significant investment for Vespertec, a company with 15 employees and an expected turnover of £66m for the year. This move also contributes to Stockport's ambition to become the UK's tech hub, with Stockport council actively promoting the area's potential for tech firms.

Other companies are also eyeing Stockport for tech developments, with Kao Data planning to build northern England’s largest data centre in the town. This initiative could attract more tech start-ups and industry giants to the region.

Leading the AI Revolution

Nvidia, a key player in the tech industry, is at the forefront of the AI revolution, as CEO Jensen Huang recently stated that "we're at the beginning of a new industrial revolution." The Vespertec brothers aim to lead this revolution by encouraging businesses to explore new AI applications and possibilities.

Phil Kaye highlights, "Image recognition, drug discovery, chatbots on websites, voice translations - AI has diverse applications across various industries. The potential for AI innovation is vast, and we want businesses to embrace it in new and impactful ways."
