WhatsApp is currently testing a new feature that allows Android beta users to create personalized AI chatbots. This new tool, known as “Create an AI,” is included in version 2.25.18.4 of WhatsApp on Google Play and is being rolled out to selected beta testers.
Customized AI Chatbots
The “Create an AI” feature enables users to customize their AI chatbots according to specific roles, functions, and personalities. Users have the flexibility to personalize the chatbot's function, conversational style, and visual avatar.
Personalization Options
Users can define the purpose of their AI chatbot, ranging from productivity assistance to language coaching or even a casual conversational partner. The setup process involves providing a description of the desired chatbot role using prompts up to 1,000 characters.
Personality and Avatars
Customization options extend to choosing the chatbot's tone and style, with selections such as calm, energetic, or motivational voices. Users can select an avatar from suggested designs or generate one through text prompts. Additionally, a unique tagline can be assigned to encapsulate the chatbot’s intended function.
Sharing Capabilities
Once configured, users have the option to keep the chatbot private for individual use or share it via a link with friends, groups, or social media platforms. This sharing functionality allows for language learners to distribute chatbots in study groups or productivity bots among colleagues.
Future Expansion
While the feature is currently in beta testing, reports from WABetaInfo suggest that the rollout will continue to expand in the coming weeks. Meta aims to embed AI-powered tools within its messaging platforms, aligning with its strategy to enhance user experiences on platforms like Instagram and Messenger through Meta’s AI Studio.
