OpenAI expands ChatGPT search: Now available to everyone, no sign-up required
OpenAI has made an exciting announcement regarding its ChatGPT Search feature. The AI-powered search tool is now accessible to all users, eliminating the need for account sign-ups. This expansion, unveiled in a recent post, opens up the capabilities of ChatGPT Search to a global audience, enabling individuals to access real-time information from the web.
Enhanced Accessibility
The ChatGPT Search feature was initially introduced in November 2024 for paid subscribers. In December 2024, OpenAI extended access to free-tier users, and now, the tool is available to unregistered users as well. This move aims to enhance accessibility, bringing AI-driven search capabilities to a wider range of users.
Users visiting the ChatGPT website will now find a globe icon next to the 'Attach file' button in the text input field. By tapping this icon, users can activate the web search mode, allowing the chatbot to retrieve information directly from the internet in real-time.
Transparency in Sourcing
To ensure transparency, ChatGPT Search displays sources in two different formats. Firstly, a clickable icon appears after sentences that reference external information, enabling users to verify the source. Additionally, a list of sources is provided at the bottom of each response, offering further clarity and traceability of the information provided.
OpenAI has opted not to impose any rate limits on unregistered users accessing ChatGPT Search. Free-tier users can enjoy unrestricted access to the feature, allowing them to retrieve real-time information without limitations.
However, the Finance Ministry has advised its employees against using AI tools like ChatGPT and DeepSeek for official work. This caution stems from concerns over potential risks to the confidentiality of government documents and data.
