Snapchat rolls out chatbot powered by ChatGPT to all users
Snapchat has announced the launch of its customizable My AI chatbot, which is now accessible to all users within the app. The feature, powered by ChatGPT, was previously only available to paying Snapchat+ subscribers. ChatGPT is an AI chatbot created by OpenAI, which gained popularity due to its impressive ability to generate original essays, stories and song lyrics in response to user prompts. Snap, along with several other companies, has been experimenting with adding ChatGPT to develop similar AI tools in their products.
My AI can offer various recommendations, answer questions, help users make plans and can even write a haiku in seconds. Users can give it a name and design a custom Bitmoji avatar to personalize it more. The tool can be brought into conversation with friends when it’s mentioned with “@MyAI”.
However, adding ChatGPT features may come with some risks due to the tool being trained on vast troves of data online. It has the potential to spread inaccurate information and respond to users in ways they might find inappropriate. Snap has acknowledged these risks and said it has made changes to “help protect against responses that could be inappropriate or harmful.”
According to Snap, about 99.5% of My AI responses conform to its community guidelines, and the company has included moderation technology in the tool. It has also added the new feature to its in-app parental tools. The company has made it clear that "My AI is far from perfect, but we’ve made a lot of progress."
The tool will test how useful AI chatbots can be in our everyday life and how much people want to interact with them for customer service and other purposes across their favorite apps. Snapchat's move to make My AI available to all users highlights the company's desire to improve its users' experience and stay ahead of the competition.
