Bidding to reduce time and costs for citizens, artificial intelligence is being introduced for the first time in a public body, the land registry
Addressing the last cabinet meeting on Friday, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis referred extensively to the reform of the land registry, emphasizing the importance of implementing "smart ideas and solutions on how to correct documents and speed up decisions." This innovative approach is set to revolutionize the efficiency of the land registry and provide a roadmap for future advancements in public administration.
Key Innovations of Artificial Intelligence in the Land Registry
The introduction of AI in the land registry promises significant improvements, with one of the primary benefits being a notable reduction in processing time. The current processing time of 20 to 30 minutes per case is expected to be streamlined to just 10 minutes, enhancing operational efficiency.
AI will revolutionize document processing by rapidly analyzing and interpreting contract content in plain language and identifying the type of deed involved. By automatically applying relevant legal rules to the identified deed, AI will expedite decision-making processes and streamline operations.
Furthermore, AI will verify the presence of essential elements required for legal contract validation, such as updates and property tax declarations, while conducting a formal legality check. Any errors detected will be promptly highlighted within the contract text, enabling swift corrections and ensuring compliance.
Future Implications and Cost Efficiency
Deputy Digital Governance Minister Konstantinos Kyranakis highlighted the potential for further efficiency gains with AI implementation, emphasizing a reduction in processing time through the accumulation of supervisor experience. This innovative system aims to enhance public administration by accelerating processes, minimizing costs, and reducing errors.
Developed in collaboration with Open AI, the company behind ChatGPT, the AI system ensures high technological standards and reliability. With the gradual adoption of AI technologies, the land registry is poised to transform its operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness significantly.
