Russia's Sberbank Launches Gigachat to Compete with ChatGPT
Russia's largest lender, Sberbank, has announced the launch of Gigachat, an AI tool designed to compete with Google's Bard and Microsoft-backed ChatGPT. The company is currently testing its multimodal neural network technology on an invite-only basis.
Sberbank claims that Gigachat's distinguishing feature is its greater ability to talk intelligently in Russian than foreign neural networks. This is crucial in a country where a significant portion of the population prefers to communicate in Russian.
The bank aims to reduce Russia's reliance on imports by embracing AI technology, particularly in light of sanctions imposed by Western countries following its conduct in Ukraine. Sberbank expects that Gigachat will promote innovation and revolutionize business operations in Russia after significant technological investment.
Analysts view the release of Gigachat as a recent move in the US-Russia technical rivalry, following the success of ChatGPT.
