Google announces Gemini as a replacement to Assistant
Google has revealed its plan to replace Google Assistant with Gemini on Android devices later this year, promising users a more advanced experience. In a blog post released on Friday, March 14, 2025, Google, owned by Alphabet, announced that it will be transitioning more users from Assistant to Gemini in the upcoming months. As a result, Assistant will no longer be accessible on most mobile devices or be available on app stores.

According to the company, they will also be upgrading tablets, cars, as well as other devices that are connected to smartphones, such as headphones and smartwatches, to incorporate Gemini. Furthermore, Google is introducing a new experience, driven by Gemini, to home devices like smart speakers, displays, and TVs. The Gemini app has now been made accessible in over 40 languages and more than 200 countries. Google aims to enhance the quality of the day-to-day Gemini experience, especially for users who heavily rely on Google Assistant.
Google has integrated several highly requested features into Gemini, including the ability to play music, support for timers, and the option to take actions directly from the lock screen. The company highlights that Gemini boasts more advanced capabilities than Assistant, offering a completely new kind of assistance and information through tools like Gemini Live and Deep Research.
