Gmail for Android gets a handy shortcut for Gemini-generated replies
Google has officially started rolling out an Insert button on the Gemini panel in the Gmail app on Android. This new feature aims to streamline the process of adding AI-generated replies to email drafts, making it faster and more efficient for users.
We previously identified the Insert button during an APK teardown and now it is being made available to all Gmail for Android users through the latest version of the app.
The Insert button serves as a shortcut for including AI-generated text as a reply in the email draft with a simple tap, eliminating the need for users to manually copy and paste the response.
The Gemini panel in Gmail already offers various AI features, such as summarizing email threads, retrieving information from previous emails, and interacting with Google Calendar events. While it could assist in drafting responses, users previously had to manually insert AI-generated replies into their drafts. With the introduction of the Insert button, this process has been significantly expedited, resembling the functionality of the Help Me Write tool in Gmail's compose screen.
The Insert button, symbolized by a sleek arrow, now joins existing options in Gmail's Gemini panel, which include "Like," "Dislike," and "Copy."
To access the Insert button and other Gemini features in Gmail, users need to ensure they have updated to version 2025.01.05.715468168 of the app through the Google Play Store.
